The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria will officially break ground on its collaborative Cancer Research Expansion Project on Monday, August 16th at 10am. The 20,000-square-foot facility will allow UICOMP’s Dr. Jasti Rao to expand his world-class research program and bring millions of dollars and dozens of jobs to the region. The ceremony will include participation by Regional Dean Sara L. Rusch, M.D., University of Illinois President Michael J. Hogan, UIC Chancellor Paula Allen-Mears, Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, Congressman Aaron Schock, Mayor Jim Ardis and Heartland Partnership President and CEO Jim McConoughey. The Korean Ambassador to the United States, Han Duk-soo, will join Congressman Aaron Schock at “Growing Jobs Across America: Opportunities in Illinois” at the Pere Marquette on Friday, August 16th from 3 to 5:30pm. Nominations are being accepted for The Heartland Partnership's 2010 Community Wealth Award, and the Peoria Chamber's 2010 Small Business Awards and 2010 Athena Award. There are four days left to “Dine Out for the Promise.” More than 30 restaurants are teaming up to help send local students to college by offering 10 percent or more of their sales to the Peoria Promise Foundation. ArtsPartners of Central Illinois is now accepting nominations for the 2010 ArtsPartner of the Year Award. Individuals and organizations will be considered based on their efforts in the areas of advocacy, education, professional service, volunteer service or funding of the arts. The award will be presented at the ArtsPartners 2010 Annual Meeting on September 29th. Nomination forms and more information are available at artspartners.net. The deadline for nominations is August 27th.
