Nominations for the 17th annual 40 Leaders Under Forty awards celebration are now being accepted. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, September 15th. Visit peoriamagazines.com and nominate a leader today!
The Central Illinois Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers invites all Central Illinois Perspective readers to join them for a hard-hat tour of the construction site of the new terminal for the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport.Space is limited and registration is required. Registration is open atsurveymonkey.com/s/CG7CHM5 until 4pm on Tuesday, August 24th. Nominations are being accepted for the annual AAIMEA Employer of the Year award. The program honors the great employers who recognize people as their greatest asset. For more information or to download an application, visitaaimstl.org/EOTY. Nomination deadline is September 1st.
OSF Home Care Services has received a private donation of $2 million from an unnamed source for its proposed Peoria-based OSF Hospice Home. The donation brings the total of funds raised to date for the hospice home to $3.7 million, roughly half of the anticipated project cost. OSF continues to seek public donations to complete the funding for this unique service.
The Community Foundation of Central Illinois is currently accepting grant proposals from nonprofit organizations within a 50-mile radius of Peoria. Newly revised grant guidelines can be downloaded at communityfoundationci.org. Proposals must be  received by 4:30pm on September 15th.

Thursday, August 19th @ Maui Jim Sunglasses
Maui Jim teams up again with the Peoria Friendship House for the Maka Maka run/walk. The three-mile fun run and 1.5-mile walk will take place at 6pm at Maui Jim world headquarters. Post-race party and celebration begins at 7pm, with pizza, refreshments and entertainment. Call 683-2078 for more information.
Saturday, August 21st @ The Shoppes at Grand Prairie
The first annual 5K for Wishes 5K Run/Walk will take place from 8am to noon to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois. The race also includes a 200-meter dash for kids. The Illinois Audubon Society and Forest Park Nature Center will host the annual Hummingbird Festival from 9am to noon. Vernon Kleen, a licensed hummingbird bander, will be on hand to demonstrate banding and discuss the fascinating world of hummingbirds. The event is free. Call 686-3360 for more information.

Catholic Charities, in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Clubs and Department of Human Services, will hold the 4th annual Community Health Fair from 9am to 1pm. Professionals will be on hand to answer questions regarding health and nutrition. There will also be family entertainment including games, inflatable jumpers, face painting and prizes.
