These rivers flow into the Illinois River. We need to get them perfectly clean. One of the first things I did in my career in 1974 was to work on environmental improvement to our air and water quality. We spent a great deal of time and money, with the goal of making our nations rivers and streams safe for fishing and swimming by 1985. We did not reach that goal, although our public waters are much improved. But we need to complete the job.
