Rich and Poor

Crofters Cottages

When you travel in Europe you are often struck by the disparity in wealth between the poor and the wealthy. The wealthy lived in large castles - the poor in tiny homes.

The castle and the crofters cottages are from Scotland.  The crofters were very poor while their Lords were rich living off the work of their poor tenants. And the landlords forced many crofters off their farms to make way for sheep which required little labor.

Many people migrated to America. They were independent and not about to let lords take over and make them subservient and poor again.

I have always thought that the disparity in wealth must be from conquest - the conqueror takes over the country and forces the poor to work to support him in style. Surely no one would willing agree to this.

But now we see Republicans willingly vote in a President and Congress who will cut taxes substantially for the rich, run up enormous deficits, and cut benefits for the poor and elderly. And the rank and file Republicans think this is wonderful.

Who would willingly let this happen to them?

Chumps, marks, suckers, fools, sheep.
