CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF URBAN CHANGE & SUPPORT 10 MORE
This November will mark Next City’s 10-year anniversary. Over the past decade, we’ve continually spotlighted the work of urban advocates, provided in-depth reporting on politics, economies, infrastructure, livability and culture in cities around the world, gathered the best and brightest young urban leaders at our Vanguard conferences, and pushed for progressive urban policies to reshape cities.
We’ve decided to commemorate this anniversary with a special evening of storytelling at the renownedJoe’s Pub in New York. Proceeds from ticket sales will support Next City in continuing to publish quality journalism about urban affairs, organizing future Vanguard conferences and producing events in cities across the country.
This fundraiser won’t be another panel discussion, but rather a benefit centered around powerful first-person stories from inspiring individuals whose work continues to transform urban America. Toby BarlowMajora CarterTod Williams and Billie TsienChoire SichaSudhir VenkateshDarren Walkerand others will share reflections on work and life in our changing urban world. Join us on November 15 and mingle with the speakers, as well as Next City’s friends, supporters and staff, over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before the program begins. Space is limited. Purchase your ticket today.
NEW APPROACHES FOR MANAGING LAND VACANCY
The Reclaiming Vacant Properties conference hosted 33 sessions, seven seminars and seven mobile tours last week in Philadelphia. Representatives from the public, private and voluntary sectors came together to discuss and outline possible solutions for abandoned properties in cities across the country. Our bloggers tracked the symposium on Twitterand on nextcity.org. See our liveblog for recaps, strategies, analysis and interviews from #RVP2013.
