Dear Friend of Artspace,

Welcome to Artspace Matters for October. The Artspace team has been hard at work across the country for the last month, with staff making great progress on projects in development in New York, New Orleans, Honolulu, Dearborn, Loveland and more. Here are some of the highlights, but check out our website for all the current news!

NEW YORK:PS109 Slideshow
On Wednesday, October 2, the El Barrio's Artspace PS109 steeple was re-installed after restoration by Yankee Steeplejack Company in Massachusetts. The steeple arrived on site the night before installation, and many members of the community and partners joined us for this big moment. The steeple, an octagon steel frame skeleton with copper sheet cladding, is more than 40 feet tall and weighs more than 17,000 pounds, complete with gargoyles - some of which function as rain gutters for the roof! See the slideshow and visit PS109's new Facebook page for more.

MESA, AZ:
JPMorgan Chase supports Artspace
The Artspace Consulting team has been working with the City of Mesa and the Mesa Arts Center since 2012 and JPMorgan Chase recently made a generous contribution of $150,000 to fund our pre-development work in Mesa. A check was presented by Cree Zischke, a JPMorgan Chase executive and Artspace board member, to the team at the end of September as we launched an Arts Market Survey in the Mesa area. This study will assist in the development of affordable new space where artists of all disciplines may live, work, and create, as well as space where arts-related organizations and businesses can thrive. This is the second step in a feasibility process, which began in October 2012 when the City of Mesa and the Mesa Arts Center invited Artspace to assess the potential for a multi-use creative facility to be developed in Mesa. Read the story in the Arizona Republic.
