IRS New Media

A kinder and gentler IRS ?

Connect with YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook.

You can now use your smartphone to work smarter with the Internal Revenue Service when you prefer social media resources over hard copy documents. The agency has opened the IRS NewMedia Center at tulsaworld.com/IRSnewmedia that delivers the latest information on tax changes, initiatives, products and services through social media.

IRS2Go: The IRS this year launched IRS2Go, a smartphone application that lets you interact with the IRS on your mobile device. The mobile application can help you get your refund status and tax updates. IRS2Go is available for the iPhone or iTouch and Android.

YouTube: The IRS has video channels on YouTube with short, informative videos on various tax-related topics. The videos are in English, American Sign Language and a variety of foreign languages.

Twitter: IRS tweets include tax-related announcements, news for tax professionals and updates for job seekers. Follow the agency @IRSnews for IRS news, IRS en Español, IRS recruitment information and the IRS Taxpayer Advocate service.

Facebook: IRS has Facebook pages that post valuable tax information for tax professionals and those needing help in resolving long-standing issues with the IRS.

iTunes: This features audio files for podcasts - short audio recordings providing useful information on one tax-related topic per podcast. The audio files are available on iTunes or through the Multimedia Center at tulsaworld.com/IRSmultimedia (along with their transcripts).

Widgets: These tools, which can be placed on websites, blogs or social media networks, direct others to IRS.gov for information. The widgets feature the latest tax initiatives and programs and can be found on Marketing Express, the marketing site that allows IRS partners and tax preparers to customize their IRS communications products.
